Description

This 66-page booklet by leading lichenologist, Allan Penecost, provides a detailed alphabetical checklist of all of the taxa of lichens to be found across the Arnside and Silverdale National Landscape, with a brief description of habitat and abundance, together with map references for the monads (1km grid squares) in which the less common or more interesting species are located.

The booklet also includes a brief introduction to the National Landscape’s topology, climate, and lichen substrata as well as a brief history of lichenology in the area.

Please note that this is a specialised text, aimed at helping existing lichenologists explore the area’s lichens, rather than a field guide for novices.  General field identification guides to lichens can be obtained from the on-line shop of the British Lichen Society.

Publication of this booklet was made possible through funding from the Arnside & Silverdale National Landscape Grant Fund.
