This book presents a comprehensive survey of every known limekiln site within the Civil Parishes of Arnside, Beetham, Burton-in-Kendal, Dalton, Holme, Hutton Roof & Kirkby Lonsdale in Cumbria, and Borwick, Priest Hutton, Silverdale, Warton, Yealand Conyers and Yealand Redmayne in Lancashire. The book was compiled and written by Paul F Barker, MA and published by Holme and District Local History Society.  It is in two parts: Part One: An Overview gives a brief account of the limekiln survey which gave rise to the writing of the book, together with an explanation of the process of lime burning and the uses for lime, and a history of the burning of lime within the survey area.  Part Two: The Sites forms the meat of the book, presenting details of the survey results, with comprehensive descriptions of all of the identified limekiln locations, including grid reference, description and other information about each. Many of the descriptions of the best preserved sites include full colour photographs.
